After 3 years of judo in high school, he started MMA and jiu-jitsu under Kuniyoshi Hironaka in college and has been doing it for 13 years, currently a jiu-jitsu brown belt.
Won domestic amateur titles including the Pancrase All Japan Open, DEEP Future King Tournament, and All Japan Amateur Shooto,
and has participated in international competitions including the Amateur World Championships.
